In this Next Talk, Edith van der Heijde who works for the SEE NL department of EYE Filmmuseum will give some insights in her work as the international promotion manager for Dutch shorts and experimental film. She will give great tips and tricks of how to distribute your film. Animation Director Dapha Awadish will share a case-study on het successful online release of her film Bear With Me, that gained more than 24.000 views and some great press reviews. But most of all this evening you will be able to ask your questions about getting your film shown! It will be a very interactive evening and we invite you to bring lots of questions!

Edith van der Heijde

Edith van der Heijde works at the EYE Filmmuseum in the Netherlands. As part of the SEE NL department, she is the international promotion manager for Dutch shorts and experimental film. SEE NL is a collaboration between Eye Filmmuseum and the Netherlands Film Fund. It is responsible for internationally promoting Dutch films, the Dutch film industry and Dutch film culture through various activities, including providing advice on festival strategy, international promotion and support and organizing international promotional activities and focus programs for Dutch film.

She also manages the Eye’s national distribution platform for Dutch short films, the Short Film Pool (Korte Film Poule). This platform aims to get the Dutch short film visible in Dutch cinemas by making them available through a subscription. The Short Film Poule catalogue contains both short films from the extensive Eye archive as well as recent works that are successful in the (inter)national festival circuit. Furthermore she distributes a small catalogue of Dutch experimental short films and artist’s moving image to international festivals, the Eye Experimental catalogue.

Daphna Awadish

Daphna Awadish is an Israeli filmmaker and illustrator living in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. She specializes in creating animated documentaries and works as an independent illustrator and animator.

Introducing her latest film, ‘Swimming With Wings,’ quietly gaining recognition at various international film festivals and honored with the Grand Prix du Jury at the Meknes International Animation Film Festival, the ECFA Documentary Film Award at the Olympia International Film Festival, and more. Additionally, her short films ‘Journey Birds’ and ‘Bear with Me’ have been featured in several international festivals, receiving awards such as the Best Animation Award at the Jerusalem Film Festival and the Fantastic Award at the Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film.

Having lived in different countries herself, Daphna explores the meaning of ‘home’ in her work. She uses mixed media to portray personal narratives in a unique and intimate manner.

Daphna graduated from Bezalel Academy of Art and Design (BA) and from AKV St. Joost Master Institute of Visual Cultures (MA). She was a lecturer in the animation department of Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam.
